The Benjamin Franklin Bridge boasts a dedicated pedestrian walkway, offering a scenic and car-free path for runners, walkers, and cyclists. Here’s what you need to know:
Lace Up and Hit the Path:
- Access: The pedestrian walkway is accessible from both the Philadelphia and New Jersey sides. On the Philadelphia side, the entrance is located at 5th and Race Street, right across from the U.S. Mint. In New Jersey, you can find the entrance at 4th and Pearl Street.
- Scenic Route: Prepare to be wowed! The walkway offers stunning views of the Philadelphia skyline, the Delaware River, and the bustling port activity below. It’s a truly unique running experience.
- Distance: The entire walkway stretches for approximately 1.5 miles (each way). So, if you’re feeling ambitious, you can turn it into a rewarding 3-mile out-and-back run.
- Open Daily (with exceptions): The walkway is generally open daily from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm (October 1 – April 30) and 6:00 am to 9:00 pm (May 1 – September 30). However, it’s always a good idea to double-check for any closures due to weather or events.
